FAQs "Copier Problems" Answer Page

Q – Why is the LCD screen on my Savin is so faded I can’t read anything?

A – Most likely somebody has bumped into the contrast dial – this is located on the left side of the control panel – just turn it till the screen is readable again.

Q - My Savin has a message on the screen telling me that a problem has been detected, and to turn the machine off and back on to reset.  I have pressed the main power button on the control panel, but the message did not reset.  How do I turn off the machine?

A -There are 2 (TWO) switches on the machine.  The "Main Power" soft button only places the machine in a power save mode.  To actually turn off the machine use the orange button located either on the front left, or the left side of the machine.  The switch may be under a clear plastic cover.  This will reset memory and some "SC" messages.

Q – Why am I getting streaks or lines on my copies only when feeding my originals through the document feeder?

A – The slit glass is dirty.  Lift the entire document feeder up, and clean the thin glass to the left of the large platen glass.

Q – I’m getting a message that there is a problem with one of the trays, and being told to call for service and report the code SC501, 502, 503, or 504 (the last digit indicates the tray with the problem).  How do I fix this myself?

A – The paper lift motor in the corresponding tray has temporarily malfunctioned.  To reset, take all the paper out of the problem tray, put it all back in (make sure no paper is folded or damaged), and turn the machine off and back on with the main orange power switch on the front or the left side of the machine.  This switch may be under a clear plastic cover.

Q – Why will my machine not turn on?

A – There are several possibilities here –

First, make sure that the main orange power switch is turned on.

Second, make sure that the surge filter has not been tripped.

Third, make sure that the surge filter is plugged into a wall outlet that has power.

If all of these checks fail to solve your problem, please call the office for service.

Q – Why is it that suddenly I only have a couple of options on my LCD screen, and the font is really large, and most of the usual options are gone?

A – Somebody has bumped the “Simplified Display” button on the control panel – press it again to get the normal screen back.

Q – Why is my Savin is constantly jamming from one tray?

A – First, check to make sure the dial in the tray is set to the correct paper size/orientation.  Not all machines have this dial, but if yours does, it’ll be located in either the back left or the front right of the paper tray.  Second, remove all the paper from the tray and make sure none of it is damaged or folded over.  Third, make sure that the paper tray has not been overfilled.  Maximum paper fill lines are located on the paper guides.

Q – When I make copies using the document feeder, why does the Savin copy them onto a larger paper size than my original?

A – Double check the paper size sensors on the document feeder to make sure they are not dirty or blocked.  They are small round sensors (about a quarter inch) to the right of where you lay your originals.

Q – When using the document feeder, why are my copies are coming out blank?

A – Your originals are most likely being fed upside down.  Generally, all of the Savin products are designed to feed the originals face up.  The exceptions to this rule can be fax machines and wide format machines.  If in doubt, check the sticker on the document feeder to confirm if originals should be fed face up or face down.

Q – When I try to make a copy, why does the LCD screen read “Original is being scanned by another function”, and not let me make a copy?

A – The Document Server function is in use.  To cancel the job being processed, press [Exit], and then press the [Document Server] key.  Next, press the [Clear/Stop] key.  When the message “[Stop} key was pressed.  Stop storing?” is displayed, press [Stop].

Q – Why does the page come out completely black when I’m trying to make copies of cash?

A – The machines are designed to not allow copying of cash in the same size as the original.  Use the enlargement button and make it a little bigger.
